Sakib Hossain: Revolutionizing Agriculture Industry

Sakib Hossain, the visionary founder of Fashol, a company that revolutionizes the agricultural supply chain, was born in the charming city of Barisal on September 9, 1999. His journey from a young boy with a passion for reading to a successful entrepreneur is nothing short of inspirational.

Sakib’s educational path led him from Banani Bidyaniketon School to Ideal College in Dhanmondi. He briefly attended Tejgaon College for university studies but left after just one month. It was in the 8th grade that he discovered his interest in physics, setting the stage for his future inspirations.

During his 12th-grade studies, Sakib immersed himself in mathematics and going through research papers. By the age of 13, he had already dabbled in 2D animations, showcasing his diverse talents and interests. Not only was he a voracious reader, with a personal library boasting 600 books, but he also honed his programming skills, demonstrating a keen intellect from a young age.

In 2015, Sakib embarked on his entrepreneurial journey by founding Printvaly, a printing solutions company with a wide reach. Two years later, he ventured into aladinkids. His first taste of a business idea came from his uncle’s family farm of poultry and fish, which served as the stepping stone for his entrepreneurial spirit.

For his initial venture, Sakib traveled to Barisal with a chicken truck and three laborers, carrying 1200 chickens. Remarkably, he managed to turn a profit of 22 thousand taka, with costs amounting to around 22 Taka per chicken.

Later on, His commitment to understanding the industry was evident as he spent three nights in Kaptan Bazar to familiarize himself with the intricacies of the market. This was followed by a seven-day stay in Kawran Bazar, where he delved into the world of vegetable trading.

Throughout 2020, Sakib’s business acumen led him to visit 38 districts, focusing on gathering insights on pre-harvesting seeds, loans, harvesting period pesticides, and post-harvesting period access to the market. Recognizing the hardships faced by farmers who lacked control over their crop prices, Sakib took a humanitarian approach, buying farmers’ produce at fair prices.

In 2020, Sakib identified an opportunity to address the lack of competition in the market and harnessed his motivation from businesses like Chaldal and Pandamart, which focused on B2C logistics and investment. He started buying vegetables in bulk from farmers’ markets and sold them to retailers in places like Banani and Dhanmondi, who often stayed overnight at Kawran Bazar.

Fashol, the company that emerged from these efforts, embodies the principles of convenience and empowers farmers by providing them with access to markets and better prices. With eight Fashol farmer centers in operation, farmers can sell their crops instantly and return home without uncertainty. Major clients like Pandamart & Thousand of retailers have recognized the value that Fashol brings to the table.

Sakib Hossain’s leadership philosophy prioritizes decision-making and customer focus, drawing inspiration from Amazon’s outlook. He encourages entrepreneurship within his team, with every employee sharing in the vision of owning the company. Sakib values being a pioneer rather than a follower and recommend reading “Principles” by Ray Dalio for aspiring entrepreneurs.

In his free time, Sakib enjoys gaming on his PS5, reading books, conducting research, traveling, and even driving himself to serene places. He has earned prestigious accolades, such as becoming the youngest entrepreneur to receive a 1 million USD pre-seed investment from the USA and China. His upcoming projects include expanding to Dubai and London for exports.

Sakib Hossain’s mission is to bridge the gap between farmers and customers, ultimately uplifting the impoverished farming community in Bangladesh. His advice to fellow entrepreneurs is simple yet profound: embrace being an outsider, focus on what truly matters, read books, seek mentorship, and, most importantly, be persistent. In his free time, he enjoys engaging in discussions about business, politics, and history with his father.

Sakib Hossain’s journey from a small-town boy with a love for books to a pioneering entrepreneur is an embodiment of determination, innovation, and a deep commitment to improving the lives of farmers and consumers alike. With Fashol, he is transforming the agricultural landscape in Bangladesh, one step at a time.
