Kamala Harris was born on 20th October 1964 in Oakland, California, United States.
Kamala’s father, Donald Harris, served as an economic policy consultant to the Jamaican Government and as an economic adviser to successive Prime Ministers. Her mother, Shyamala Gopalan Harris, worked as a breast cancer researcher at the University of Illinois and University of Wisconsin. Kamala married Doug Emhoff in 2014. Doug is an American lawyer.
The brave Kamala graduated from Howard University in the U.S. After that; she obtained her law degree at the University of California, Hastings.
Kamala’s parents divorced when she was at the tender age of only seven. According to Harris, whenever she used to pay a visit to her dad in Palo Alto, other children in the neighborhood were not allowed to play with the sisters since they were black. At the age of 12, Kamala, along with her sister and mother, moved to Montreal, Quebec.
After high school in 1982, Harris joined Howard University, a black University in Washington D.C. While studying at Howard University, she joined as an intern as a mailroom clerk for California senator Alan Crantson, led the debate team, and also joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. Finally, she graduated in 1986 with a degree in Political Science and Economics. Later, she obtained a degree in Law from the University of California.
Kamala initiated her career in the Alameda County District Attorney’s office and later the City Attorney of San Francisco’s office. She was elected Attorney General of California in 2010 and was re-elected in 2014. Harris worked as the junior United States senator from California from 2017 to 2021.
Furthermore, in 2016, Harris became the second African woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. Being a senator, she started supporting and promoting health care reform, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform.
Finally, in 2020, Biden selected Harris as his running mate, and they won the general election with uttermost triumph. Currently, Harris is the Vice President of the United States.
