Prime minister’s ICT Affairs adviser, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, has been awarded ASOCIO Leadership Award 2021 for his unparalleled contribution to developing Bangladesh’s ICT sector.
ASOCIO is known as The Asian Oceania Computing Industry Organization. It represents 24 economies throughout the Asia Pacific. The organization’s former head Bangladesh’s Abdullah H Kafi announced Sajeeb Wazed Joy as the award winner. Former chairman of ASOCIO Bunrak Saraggananda handed over the award on behalf of ASOCIO’s current chairman David Wong Nan Fay.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for ICT, received the award on behalf of Sajeeb Wazed on the second day of the World Congress on Information Technology in Dhaka. Minister Zunaid Ahmed believes this award will encourage many others to work for their country. He said, “This award is recognition of Sajeeb Wazed Joy’s work, merit, and honesty. It will inspire the next generation to work under his leadership. We feel proud for him winning the award.”
Before Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina won the award in 2010. Besides these former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra won this award in 2004, and former Malaysian prime minister Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad also won in 1997.
From Bangladesh, ASOCIO Leadership Award was also awarded to Computer Service Limited, Bangladesh Computer Council, Development of National ICT Infra Network for Bangladesh, Boighor, and the National Health Call Center this year.
Countries like Nepal. Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Vietnam also won the awards.
